Buddy, if she comes out looking as nice as the Galaxie did, you are going to have one gorgeous truck! And you know I'll help you with whatever I can, all you've got to do is say the word. (Welding is easy... just takes practice!) Let me know if you find anything between here and there that you need and I'll swing by and pick it up on my routine trips south! Talk to you later, amigo! ;)

Found an entry about a list of what to do when you do a truck on Stovebolt forum and had to follow up and say THANK YOU. My next of the 1000 little repairs is whipping on the front brakes. Easier when you think about a list..Backs are done and i think i need to do a better job running the lines - cuz i can and IT WILL look better. I did make a list and it went super easy (lesson learned) for the back frame axle/pumpkin paint job. Love the learning side of the process and maybe getting a little more fearless. More like respectful. anyhow thanks for making me rethink the "HOW". List and budget!

Jay, I really enjoy your site and the great tips and photos. I bought a 1964 C10 short wheelbase stepside in May of this year, so I am far behind you. So far, I've redone the brakes (to stock), water pump and new aluminum radiator. I'm waiting for Tom Langdon to find a T5 for me. I'll be in Detroit in a couple of weeks, and could pick it up, but it all depends on when he has one available. Your truck is looking great, and the information that you are passing on is invaluable!

I must say Im very impressed with the material on this blog. In saying that...I am not a mechanic and I don't have a mechanical mind, hence all the info on the t 5 is a jumble in my brain. Im better when someone of knowledge just tells me in layman terms then I can go on with the project. I have just bought a 1965 c10 with and I6 with 3 on the tree. I am having a 350 built that is going to be pushing around 400 hp. I want to use a manual 4 speed tranny on the floor with the stock 12 bolt rear end. PLEASE tell me what kind of tranny to buy and what rearend work I can do to accomplish this goal...please keep in mind...I am very limited in the math of every thing...so keep it simple....example...your 350 needs this(whatever brand 4 speed ) that bolts right up hooked to the stock rear end with this gear ratio put in it. This would be greatly appreciated...I feel as if you are the Einstein of the 1965 c10 world and you will steer me straight. Thanks

This was a very helpful page. but i just need to know one thing. is there any possible way to identify weather or not i have the 6 or 7 tooth drive gear on a t5 from the outside, its going into a 1994 camaro v6 3.4l and my speedometer burys then the car shuts off. so what im thinking is i have the 7 tooth. in turn making my speed increase much faster. correct me if im wrong.

I read a post of yours on another website and thought I'd ask you a question. I have a 93 s10 2.8 v6. I assume it has the WC t5. Do you know what the easiest v8 to put in this truck would be. It can be either Chevy or ford. I'd like to keep this tranny and just swap motors. Any thoughts?

Love your t-5 rebuild pages. You are the only reason I am doing it. I got myself a t-5 #146 with the 4.03 2.37 1.49 1.00 0.76 ratios for only 50$ in mint shape. Im looking to possibly find one with a better ratio to suit my needs but im having no luck. I have a local Camaro/Firebird place here that says they have a sea can full of good transmission internals out of the cases that i can pic from to make up what i need to fit in my s-10 case. What I am wondering is do you know what, or where to find out what all the teeth counts are for the internals for lets say a tag # 061 with a ratio of 3.50 2.14 1.39 1.00 0.78 or tag # 83 with ratios 3.78 2.18 1.42 1.00 0.72.

First of all, your homebrew T5 pages are AWESOME! It's nice to see someone who works on their own stuff and documents their work for other's to follow. That's awesome and mega-informative. may I ask you some questions? I have a 1995 Chevy S10 SWB Reg Cab truck with a "built" 4.3 engine. I've converted it to a carburetor and it's a blast to drive around it. Evidently, it's too much of a blast because the stock NV3500 transmission "broke" internally and is toast. Looking at prices for repair and / or replacement for a NV3500 it seems like it would be much cheaper to install a WCT5 out of an older Camaro. At least if I had a WCT5 it would appear I cold rebuild it much easier myself in the future. From what I've learned, the NV3500 is a throwaway transmission if it ever goes bad. Can I install a bellhousing from a Camaro and get a Camaro WCT5 to install in my truck? If I do that, do I just transfer my clutch slave cylinder over to the driver's side of the transmission and still us it? Can I just install a 10.5" 23 spline clutch disc in my 11" clutch where my current 10 spline NV3500 input shaft goes? Would I even have to get a Camaro T5 transmission for strength or are the internals of any WCT5 transmission the same regardless of if they came out of a Camaro or S10 or Astro van? Can I get a Ford WCT5 and make it work in my Chevy S10 if I changed the input shaft to the appropriate one for a Chevy? I don't have a speedometer in my truck so I don't care at all about speedo hookups. If you have time to email me and answer my questions that would be awesome. If not that's OK, I still would like to thank you for your very informative T5 pages. Thanks.

Steve, I'm pretty sure that you can make a T5 work in your truck. I'll email you and we can get started on figuring it out. The 4.3 engine uses a V8 style bell housing pattern. The Camaro T5 is certainly a good choice but I'd recommend one from a V6 Camaro.

Dave, Thanks for the tip. I have seen people cut and then drill new holes in the Mustang shifter base plate because it's longer than the Camaro shifter box. It's also possible to swap the stem inside. I bought a T56 shifter with a 2 bolt Hurst style connection on eBay and it was a direct bolt on. I sold it because I decided to get a short throw shifter from an S10 instead.

Absolutely awesome, you should include an article on using a t5 with an sm465 bellhousing out of the Chevy 2500s. It's a good option for a factory hydraulic clutch without rotating the trans like the Camaro v8 bell. Hi, I have a 1950's Kellison j4. It has a built 327 with 1989 Camero t5 wc trans and 3.55 open pumpkin diff.. The t5 makes it all good. I have had a problem with leaking speedo housing. i had to make my own speedo gear by marrying two parts and it works. the shaft seems a bit loose and there was no gasket or to stop fluid from going up the shaft and leaking. Yesterday i replace the o ring and coated the barrel with ''stuff'' and hope it will stop leaking. this was ages of taking it out and arghhhh...stuff....i will go for a drive and see if it improved. the trans is perfect for 65 at 1900 rpm and its just floats along and is a pleasure...sort of.....to drive...the build story #3 is mine at the website......any ideas about the leak?

You might try installing a brand new TH350 speedo housing and driven gear. That should stop the leak. The TH350 speedo housing (some call it a bullet) is exactly correct for the cable speedo hole in the T5 and should have a new O-ring gasket and new inner gasket for the driven gear. Let me know how that works out. Is your 1989 Camaro T5 a V8 model with a 26 spline IS or a V6 model. With the RPMs around 1900 at 65mph I'm guessing it's a V6 Camaro T5 with a 0.73 OD gear. That's perfect for your setup.

Jay, have been impressed with your T-5 knowledge and think you can give me the info I need. Car is a 1975 Mercedes 280SL, 185hp, Inline 6 with a Getrag 5-spd tranny that you can no longer get parts for. I want to replace it with the early Ford version of the T-5 for the tight bell housing bolt pattern but need the long tailshaft of the Gen 3 Camaro for shifter placement. The further out the better. Would prefer W/C for the added strength but NWC would work especially with the mechanical speedo. Is this pairing, Ford and GM, possible?? Hopefully I have been clear enough in what I want to accomplish, if not please e-mail. Many Thanks. JD

I don't know much about other transmissions. However, many modern transmissions have a different bolt pattern than older engines so it really depends on the bolt pattern on the engine in question. Sorry I can't answer your question.

The T5 gearing varies a lot. The S10 trucks and V6 Camaros all had either 4.03 or 3,75 for a first gear. That may seem really low but most people don't mind too much. You don't spend a lot of time in first gear anyway.

Do I understand correctly that the tail housings are interchangeable? If it's less money, why not buy a non-WC T5 that has the mechanical speedo connection and use it for a while. Then, when it fails or I get tired of it, shop for a WC unit and change out the tail housing?
Reply
Jay
6/2/2017 10:16:11 am
Yes, the tail housing are interchangeable. If you can find a Camaro or Firebird T5, they all have a cable speedo connection. The only S10 T5s with a cable speedo are 1988 and earlier. Those are becoming very rare. Just the tail housing alone usually runs $250 on eBay. If I find one, I usually buy it. Haven't found one locally in over a year.

If your T5 input shaft actually has 26 gear teeth, then the Jeep shaft swap will NOT work for you. Are you sure it's 26 teeth? I'm thinking most V6 Camaro T5s have 21 gear teeth on the input shaft.

I don’t use a cross member with my T5. There is a cross member immediately beneath my bell housing. If you decide to add a cross member, I’d recommend using the rubber pad that has only one bolt going into the cross member. That way torsional forces would have less effect. I have read all the arguments that are for and against using a cross member yet I have never heard of a case or tail housing failure either way.

Hi Jay, I read through your entire blog. GREAT info on the T5 and how to make them compatible for SBC use. I picked up a T4 for the tail section and a T5 out of an 88 Firebird (WC) with a 14 spline input. I have not tore down the units yet, have to wait for spring. My question is this: What does the T5 have for input tooth count, 21 or 24? I want to put a Jeep 10 spline in the unit and I'm hoping the 14 Spline has a 21 tooth count so I can. I read that you can use a Non World Class input with a brass ring in a WC box. Thanks.

I have a Non-WC S-10 T5 with mechanical speedometer. I am looking at input shafts for Jeep T5's on eBay to do the swap you describe. I have asked them if the shaft they are offering is WC or N-WC. One of them told me that all Jeep T5's were N-WC. Is that correct?

Yes, all Jeep T5s are NWC. The obvious question is - "So why do WC Jeep shafts even exist?" The answer is - The vendor I bought my WC Jeep shafts from said the WC Jeep shafts were never used in production. He was involved as a consultant and basically had a few on hand. I bought the last few he had and there are no more WC Jeep shafts available.

When I do the Jeep input shaft swap, do I get an input shaft bearing for the S10 or the Jeep?

I bought a T5 from a yard in West Virginia and had it FedEx'd to me. Non-WC with mechanical speedo tail housing.

I recommend doing a jeep input shaft swap. You will need to trim about 1/2 inch off of the pilot tip and trim the release bearing sleeve. If you decide to keep the 14 spline S 10 input shaft, then you will need to search for a 14 spline clutch disk. You will need to modify and lengthen the splines on the input shaft, or buy a spacer plate, or trim some of the splines on the hub of the clutch disk. Doing the jeep input shaft swap illuminates the need for an adapter plate, Plus it converts to 10 splines and it is a stronger input shaft then the S 10 shaft.

Thanks for this page, What a wealth of knowledge and help. Please advise. I have a 52 chevy with a 235 6 engine, 4 speed granny. Its a 3600 model (3/4 ton). The differential is offset from centerline. I don't know what the numbers are but the 1952 spec sheet says it is 32.26 in first, 16.36 second, 7.81 third and 4.57 direct drive which I assume is 4th. If this is considered a 4.57 rear diff, then it doesn't match up with any of your recommendations for the T5 swap. Should I even bother changing to a T5. Would I have to change the rear end as well. I really liked the idea of changing to a T5 and changing doing the input shaft conversion. I have bench seats and was going to buy a 1352-145 which seems to meet all my needs for manual speedometer and forward shift lever.

It appears my rear may be an Eaton HO52. Folks on Stovebolt state that i can change gears to 4.10 on it. Otherwise it looks like a complete rear axle?
Jay
6/12/2018 07:58:51 am
That S10 T5 should have a 3.76 first gear and a 0.72 overdrive. When combined with a 4.10 rear axle gear, you will have much better RPMs on the highway. First gear may be a bit low for most situations, but should still be functional. I use an RPM calculator to figure out the RPMs in each gear. I use this link. http://www.crawlpedia.com/rpm_gear_calculator.htm Most tires for these trucks are 29”.

Install the T5. Then 3 options: 1. Replace torque tube with new shaft and see how it does with existing 4.57. 2. Change out gears to 4.1 (if gears are even available and this is the lowest for the Eaton). 3. Change to 14 bolt rear that I can get a 3.73 gear set. Stovebolt has a lot of info on the 14 bolt and it seems to be a lot of work. I have 245/75/16 8 lug tires. This truck is not intended to be a daily driver and don't plan on taking long highway trips so >60mph wont happen. What would you do?

Well you haven't been wrong so far and you input has helped me so much. Thanks. To refresh, I have a 52 chevy 3600 with what I believe is either a GM 10 bolt or Eaton HO52. Either way, it is a 4.57 ratio. I installed my T5 with the input shaft change, modified the original shifter with a short throw from a junk yard, and then had a new driveshaft fabricated. I do believe I need to change out to the 3.73 rear axle. I have heard you can get (if you can find) gears to change from 4.57 to 4.1 but that will only improve specs by 10%. I don't have a tach and speedometer is off, but my GPS shows only about 45-50 mph and engine sounds like high RPM so I am wanting to change out rear end. I really don't know where to start as finding a replacement 3.73 differential that will fit. I wanted to ask you before posting on stovebolt. Can you provide some guidance. I currently have 245-75R16 tires on rear, 8 lugs but can change that if needed. I will also have to have a new drive shaft fabricated as well.

Ready to order my T5 and Jeep input shaft. Doing review and I am now baffled and how to connect to rear end. The 3600 has a torque tube that is supported by a crossmember and then the open drive shaft back to rear. I removed the torque tube from the 4 speed and the center bearing. The u joint is further back from the center support which attaches the torque tube. Do I need to get one long drive shaft with u joints on both end to go from the T5 to the differential. Can you point me to any links. I think I saw on Stovebolt where you were talking about only having to shorten the front axle but I cannot find that thread again and it may have been about something else.

I purchased my T5 and had them install the jeep shaft while they were rebuilding it. I will do the input retainer and shaft cut. I made the retainer cut with no problem. Since the input shaft is installed and I don't want to remove, I can't mark the 8.75. I do have the old transmission and will try to measure the old shaft total length to mounting face and cut the new shaft to the same length. Would you happen to have the dimension of the amount to remove. Don't know the total shaft length but it would be that length minus the 8.75. thanks.

You are wise to measure your other tranny for distance of the pilot tip from the front of the tranny case. Duplicate that distance and you should be good. Remember to chamfer the pilot tip a bit. If I remember correctly, you’ll trim off about 1/2” to 5/8”.

Getting close! thanks again. Read your section on making a custom shifter. My transmission did not come with the shifter (base, lever, etc). You list junk yards as a source. Will only the 92-94 S10 levers work? I intend to change the lever as needed to fit for the bench seat. Plus I have the original granny shift lever I can modify. I only need the base. I can do the Lokar lever changeout you reference as well.

I used your T5 NWC rebuild article to rebuild my 1985 GM T5. It is an excellent reference for that project. I also used the factory manual however your simple instructions and excellent pictures really make it easier to be successful. One thing that bugged me during the process was I kept counting the cyncro rings. I had talked myself into thinking I had one extra. I kept a photo log of progress just to be sure I didn't leave anything out. Sure enough when comparing my photos to your instructions I realized you don't make mention of the 4th gear synchro

All going pretty well. I could not install the reverse/5th gear fork with the main shaft in place. Stood on one foot stuck my tongue out still wouldn't go on the slider. Had to pull the main shaft out. No big deal took maybe 10 minutes. The next problem I created for myself was after I installed the cover/shift fork assembly I noticed the role pin hole was sideways not up and down*%#€=!!!. Had to remove the cover clean it and the case again. Then position the square pin on the shaft in the slots on the shift forks and reinstall the cover.

Transmission is back in and shifting great. It’s quieter also. I came up with an alternative to the method the Tremec manual sets forth for setting the input shaft bearing preload. Install the input bearing retainer with the bolts hand tight. Adjust the bolts buy hand until space between the bearing retainer and case is even all around. Using this method install or remove shims until you achieve .003 space between the bearing retainer and case. When you torque the bolts to spec you’ll have .003 preload.

Here's a Good 'step' -- when taking apart your "Main shaft & Gears" ... I put a white mark on the face of each gear (mark the "input side face" ) and by doing that I could re-install each gear 'correctly' .

It has a .72 OD. It only had 88,000 on it for $150 so I figure it was worth a shot. Iowa is pretty flat and I'm running a 27" tire so I figure it should work for my cruising. If it struggles I'll hunt for a .86.

What year T5 do you have? If you have a 1993 or earlier S10 T5, then the Jeep shaft swap should work fine. The S10 input shaft should have 21 gear teeth and 14 splines. You would swap that S10 shaft with a 10 spline Jeep shaft with 21 gear teeth. The Jeep shaft is only available in the non-world class version but you just use a brass synchro ring in place of the WC fiber lined synchro ring. It will work the same. The correct brass synchro ring will have the three small size notches and I have extras on hand if you need one.

1 synchro ring is showing a little wear but my main problem is that all the reverse cut teeth on the 1st gear side of the reverse sliding gear are mashed up. The corresponding engaging teeth look all okay. I expected to see damage on both sides, not just one. With regards the thrust bearing, 2 needle bearings have been ripped out, not too sure what's gone wrong there, but needs replacing.

I have switched to Jeep input shaft 21 teeth and mounted the tail from a 1983 for mechanical speedometer. My problem now is that it whining in all gears except the 4th. Do you know what could be wrong? Very grateful for good advice. With kind regards, Mats Lysmo Sweden.

The whine could be bad bearings on the countershaft. When in 4th gear the countershaft doesn’t have much load applied to the bearings because the input shaft has locked to the main shaft.

Hi Jay, Thanks for putting this page together. There is no way I would have been able to pull off a T5 installation without it, well at least not with a high degree of confidence it would work. I do have a dumb question, When mounting the T5 up to my chevy 292 inline 6 do I buy a clutch kit for the T5 or for the 292 or does it matter? There are some part websites I can go to and it will list a kit based on the 292 engine but I would think it should be based on the NWC T5 that came out of the S10 but not sure if there is any difference. BTW - I did switch the shaft to a Jeep 10 spline as you suggested.

Jay
8/27/2020 04:23:02 pm
No, don't buy a T5 clutch kit. If you did the Jeep shaft swap and you have a Muncie bolt pattern T5 case, then you would use a standard factory clutch package for the 292ci. The clutch kit should have the correct release bearing. (Remove the release bearing seal and add more grease to the release bearing and then replace the seal. They often come with too little grease right out of the box.) The beauty of the Jeep shaft swap is the fact that you can use the 10 spline factory clutch kit that was designed for your engine and flywheel AND . . . . you can avoid buying the expensive adapter plate.

The inline 230ci and 250ci (before the integrated head) used a PS pump bracket that is hard to find at a reasonable price these days. There is a vendor on eBay who makes a very nice set of brackets for an early 230/250 PS pump and alternator. The design is different than factory, but that only matters if you MUST have a factory appearance. Here's the link.

If you have a World Class T5, then you will need a brass synchro to replace the fiber lined synchro. If you have a non-world class T5, then you will use the brass synchro you already have.

Great web site, and good info! I am installing a 94 S10 T5 behind a 45 Dodge flathead six engine using the original Dodge bellhousing. I've done a couple of these over the years. I have two issues to resolve. I need to convert from

Will the t5 13 52 176 camaro tail shaft be to long for my 65 c10 with 60/40 bench seat.? Will i be able to shift without hitting the seat.

Yes, the Camaro T5 shifter position will come up beneath the bench seat. Sorry about that. The Camaro gears are usually very nice for these trucks, but you'd be better off converting it to an S10 shifter position.

So, i have the t5 issue figured out. So, my next question to ask the blog, has anyone used those cheaper under dash a/c units offered on ebay, versuses those more expensive ones from vintage air etc. Any input on this would be helpful. Thanks Mike

Very few people visit the comment section on my website unless they are asking me a question about T5s. I know nothing about the aftermarket AC kits, so I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question.

You are correct, the wavy washer is NOT used with a NWC Jeep shaft swap. However, the absence of the wavy washer is not the problem. I say this because many others have done the Jeep shaft swap and removed the wavy washer without issues.

Hello!! I got a franken-Jeep cherokee that's a '93 2dr, 2wd, 4cyl, 5spd that I've put in a '79 350 with Novak mounts and a T5 from a '95 Camaro. I've been saving parts, so I ended up trying a S10 top cover and tail cone, And it fit PERFECT!! The Camaro output shaft had the reluctor in the same spot where the speedo driven gear would reside, but it's friday and nobody wants to answer their phone!! I'd like to just slide on the gear (for a 4.1 axle) and be done.

If the S10 tail has a VSS style speedo port, the angle of the port is wrong for converting it to a cable speedo connection. You can't just remove the VSS bullet and then insert the cable speedo bullet.

One more thing. I assume you currently have a 10 spline clutch disc with the Saginaw 4 speed. Your 4 speed input shaft should be about 6 + 5/8" long from the front of the transmission case.

I am trying to rebuild my 66 Chevy C10 with my son and we are using your site to help us with the ebrake upgrade. I was wondering if these instructions will work with our 66 year truck? We have ordered rear cables from different sites and have yet to get the correct length. We have upgraded the rear to disc brakes and was wondering if the stock rear brake cables will fit using disc brakes. Thanks for any help you can give us.

I'm working on a steering column from a C10 that I inherited from my Dad who was the original owner and your web site has been very helpful. It appears that Dad disassembled it and the shifting tube is not centering properly - causing the column assembly to wobble - and I'm suspicious about a washer that he used. He put a thin steel washer between the shift collar tension ring and the shifter collar that is 1-13/16" OD & 1-1/4" ID. Your instruction for installing a washer shows a similar washer that goes between the turn signal collar and the turn signal mechanism but the manual shows a washer between the shifter collar and the turn signal collar. As far as I can tell, this washer is critical to centering the shifting tube in the steering column tube and it doesn't seem to matter which side of the turn signal collar it's on. If that's correct, the washer needs to be about 1-7/8" OD & 1-1/8" ID and washer thickness doesn't matter since there are adjustments for tolerances in the shift collar tension ring and the lower support clamp. Am I missing something?

Thank you so much for all the t5 information. I finally got my own S10. It's actually a Sonoma but semantics. It's a 1995 2.2 with the T5. I love it but the poor t5 had been used. Not abused but it was used as a truck. Your blogs and videos helped me to go through the t5 and bring it back to life. I've started digging into your other content and love it too.

Love all you T5 info. I am building a 54 GMC and sadly the 248 runs but it's junk. Tired old motor so I bought a known good 270 that I personally pulled 2 years ago from a 52 GMC 2 Ton with the 4 speed we did a V8 swap on. Wanting to keep my truck kinda original I got the 270 cheap with the 4 speed bellhousing and old SM Trans (swap meet fodder). I have put in a Ford 9" previous owner that started the project had a 55T in it with a mincie 318 sadly both junk as well. But the 9" now totally got me thru and redrilled for 6 lug still retains the 3.50 open spool in it. Reading your comments it looks okay but not ideal? I also agreed to buy a S10 T5 that only has 30k miles on it. I don't know much more than it supposedly is an early and has a LS bell housing bolted to it (more awapeet fodder) with an LS clutch. I can sell both of those and recoup the cost I am buying the trans for. (others I've found here are $800 or.more for high miles so a few Benjamin's for a low mile one? Yes please! Anyway just wanted to hook up maybe get an email so if I run into issues I can holler. I have the pleasure of having Buffalo Enterprises a few miles away as well. But not really on good terms with him mostly because he knows who I got the truck from and he really teeed him off. Mostly due to the 4 bbl Clifford intake. Great site, loads of info and I'll be lurking and learning. Thanks!

Yes the 270 came out of a 2 Ton but going in my 54 1/2 Ton Series 1. So I have 2 bellhousings one that had the Mincie 318 off the bad 248 and the one that had the SM4 4 speed off the 270. I. Trying to get more info on the 5 speed it has a bellhousing for a LS currently bolted to it that will be swap meet fodder as well as a clutch for an LS. Getting it cheap if otnwill work for me. Realizing this isn't a plug and play like I was initially told after reading your blog and forum.posts. Hope to see the t5 sometime this week and willet you know. Thanks for responding.

I like to give credit where credit is due. Thanks for blazing the trail and documenting for others to follow. Loved my 66 C10 3 on the tree shifter but need a something for cruising. So I completely copied your idea and found me a WC T5 out of a 1993 S10. I proceeded to rebuild it with new synchros and bearings and will install it real soon. Even did the input shaft swap. Once again thanks for sharing your work

My wife was able to find and acquire my dad's truck as a Christmas present 2 year ago. Instead of buying a project I have the very truck I learned to drive in as a teenager 35 years ago. It is in pretty rough shape so lots of metal work needed. The good news was the inline 6 (250) was solid and running. I kind of felt the LS swap was boring and beyond my current budget. Keeping the I6 and putting T5 behind it makes it a better highway cruiser. Many more mods to come. power steering and brakes, AC for the Mrs., nice paint and brand new bed wood to name a few.

The T5 I found isnout of an early 2000s S10 so it's a non WC Electric Speedo Trans. Will it work without an adapter? I have both the 238 Muncie Bellhousong and the one off the 270 with the SM 4 speed. Thanks!

I recently purchased a 1986 NWC trans from an S10. Could you please provide me with info about applying this transmission to a1957 Chevrolet pickup with a Saginaw bell housing? This truck is equipped with a V8 (just for cruising). Would certainly appreciate your reply. Thank you.

Hey Jay. Lost your email. Quick question how much power will that S10 T5 hold? My project just took a left turn. After no luck on 6 cylinder stuff im going with an S10 Frame Swap, LS i have sitting under thr bench and thinking of keeping the T5 to put behind it. But i have read conflicting numbers for the NWC T5.

I saw your write up regarding the T5 for C10's and have chose to go this route for my 64 project. Thank you for posting all this very helpful info! I looked at the "engine to rear axle" section and had a question. You show a solid axle from transmission to axle. My C10 has a 2 parts axle. Original SM420 transmission. Front axle bolts to Transmission and rests in a carrier bearing mounted to crossmember that holds trailing arms. Then a slip fit set of U-joints and 2nd axle goes from there to axle. If I change out the front portion to the yoke that slips onto the T5 there is nothing really holding that axle in except the carrier bearing. Do you have a suggestion on this set up with a T5?

What model T5 do you have? Does it have a Muncie bolt pattern (1983-1993 T5 or a Ford bolt pattern (1994-1995)?
