There are some very creative people in the world. Since the Camaro T5 shifter location is too far back for a bench seat, folks have come up with different ways to move the shifter handle forward by fabricating a linkage. Here are some pictures of different shifter linkages I've collected from the internet. Some look good and just might work.
The modification I like best is the shifter box that was added to the tail housing and connects directly to the original shifter rod.

The modification below is my favorite. He "clocked" the added shifter box for his particular application, but it could just as easily be made to line up with the original shifter box at the rear of the tail housing.
Here are the basic steps. He started with a Camaro tail housing which has a cable speedo connection. These are very easy to find.
This next section shows the offset shifter that was used with the T5 in the CHEVY ASTRO vans and GMC SAFARI vans. There is a solid rod inside the tube. The rod connects the shift handle to the shifter box. Side to side movement slides the rod left and right and is spring loaded. Front to back shift handle movement spins the rod on its center axis.
I think it would be possible to make this type of linkage with the offset to the front instead of offset to the side.
